3 Peaks 2015

This time round I went not to ride the challenge, but to support and enjoy the spectacle from the other side of the white line.

IMG_3912 IMG_3907

I did take my bike over for a spin on Saturday morning, down to Mt Beauty and climbing the 30km back up to Falls Creek. Hard work, but quite enjoyable. The best thing about it was the temperature – bloody 20+ degrees cooler than we had been experiencing in Adelaide in the lead up month. Superb.

IMG_3929

First up it was a brief ride across the top with the team before I left them to ride onto Trapyard Gap.

The 6 riders and 3 support fit nicely into the superb penthouse. Plenty of room for the essentials.

IMG_3922Before I get stuck into showing you the pictures from the weekends ride, let me give you some of the quotes (or near as I can get it) from the weekend.

The day really challenged me and at the end I was broken physically, mentally and emotionally. To get Keith and myself through those last 35kms probably took as much effort from both of us as the 1st 200kms.  Jake Adams

Riding up Mount Hotham – Jacob Adams

I feel like I’m going to throw…….. Keith Dougal up Back of Falls Road

what time did you ride last year (my reply – 11.37) I’m riding 11:36……

hurry up Roger……

hurry up John……

where’s Tony?………

was that Curtains that just went passed on the bus?……..

How long do you want me to wait for you at the top of WTF…….

ZaneMac.

You can stick those gels & health bars right up your rear reflector. ……

was that another pony tail going past….

JayKay

I know I pissed in the middle of the dunny & made lots of noise & I know I left the door open & the light shining … But at least I didn’t flush the toilet!?!  Chris Swan

Leaving Trapyard Gap after all of the backslapping, high fives and photos, and then coming to the sudden realisation that you have probably the equivalent of a Tollgate to Bollards ride to do with not much left in the tank, or in the legs!! Roger van der Jeugd.

And on a more serious note

I sat down in front of the computer on the Tuesday night after the 3 peaks ride to watch the 3 Peaks 2015 promotional video again. When I watched it this time, it raised the hairs on the back of my neck and sent spine tingling sensations through me. “Fark”, I said to myself. “I really did do that. That’s blood amazing.” What an incredible experience – the training, mateship and the ride itself. Memories for life!.  Chris de Picot

Zane, JK and Rog crossing the line some considerable time later at 11:58:34. Followed by Tony at 12:13:47, before a long nervous wait before Curtains came home. He did with with a few minutes to spare at 12:53:33. Great effort Chris.

Many stories, laughs, piss taking and drinking over the weekend.

Given the limited training in the lead up due to the very hot weekends, these guys were UNBELIEVABLE.

An awesome trip, and inspired to have a go next year.  I just have to work out what the entry qualification requirements are for next year as they have changed, but to what?

  1. That, my good man, is one of your finest! Brings back some fantastic memories of our 2014 effort. Love the photos, makes missing out very tough!

    1. Thanks Mr Stein, we missed you, and your fine efforts at the wrong end of a tattoo gun.

The newbies have technically not completed a 3 peaks. They completed the Peaks Challenge Falls Creek. You my fine man took part and finished the last 3 peaks ride.

      Training for 2016 starts soon.

  2. Always enjoy reading Wednesday legs but I hope you don’t mind me pointing out some holes in your list of SA 3 Peaks finishers. At least 3 people I know (Adam Kerin (8:06), Mike Mullan (8:08) and myself (9:23)) failed to make the list. There are probably others too. Just took the edge off it – as I’m sure you understand!

    1. Hi Matt

Hi agree it would have been disappointing to have your name missed, and for that I apologise.

Unfortunately I don’t get anywhere enough time to double check information, and thats my own fault, but I try my best.

A great effort by Adam, Mike and yourself, exceptionally great riding and far exceeds my humble capabilities.

thanks for the feedback, and hopefully I haven’t lost you

      cheers Ian
