Fa Fa Fa Fa Fashion

Ghost Bikes are small and somber memorials for bicyclists who are killed or hit on the street. A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near the crash site, accompanied by a small plaque. They serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists’ right to safe travel.
The first ghost bikes were created in St. Louis, Missouri in 2003. Currently there are over 500 ghost bikes that have since appeared in over 180 locations throughout the world. For those who create and install the memorials, the death of a fellow bicyclist hits home. We all travel the same unsafe streets and face the same risks; it could just as easily be any one of us. Each time we say we hope to never have to do it again — but we remain committed to making these memorials as long as they are needed.

There was apparently a ghost bike installed a few years back.

The first ghost bike in Adelaide was placed in June 2010 by Adelaide Cyclists, and supported by the Bicycle Institute of SA, as a memorial to the unnamed cyclist who was killed on Payneham Road on Saturday May 28, 2010.

Nearly thirty cyclists turned out the following Sunday morning to join together in a Ride for Remembrance for the cyclist they did not know.

Rides in remembrance are called Rides of Silence.  They are what the name says. A ride in total silence to remember and think about fallen comrades.  If you ever come across one, participate in the rides spirit.

The Ride of Silence Poem…

Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, fathers, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight’s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be your partner on your final ride

Take care out there guys, we love the freedom, but there are those risks that are ever present.

Ghost Bikes

With Fathers Day not too far away now, you will need to be dropping the hints.  No doubt you have pretty much got the cycles you want, the riding apparel is top quality and the the odds and ends that we absolutely need have been purchased, so there isn’t too much left that you need.

Well, to help  you get some ideas in your head, I thought that I’d share some of my fashion tips to you guys (who are undoubtedly lacking in that department (on the whole anyway, there are a few who do spectacularly scale the heights).

The Sports jacket tailored for cycling

The Lapelled Jacket combines semi-formal tailoring with technical fabrics and features. The main body of the jacket is made from an easy-care, cotton-nylon blend that includes Elastane for great stretch. The fabric is lightweight, quick-drying and dirt-resistant and creases will stretch out easily. Twin vents in the shoulders ensure great reach on the bike and the flexible nature of the fabric also means that it will shape to your body when riding. Off the bike it will return to a more relaxed, deconstructed look. The jacket is single-breasted and has single cuff buttons – a trademark of quality tailoring – each finished with debossed Rapha logotype.

Technical features include a storm collar, which is finished with hi-vis tape for extra visibility when fastened. The back of the jacket has a vertical pocket with a bonded zip, while inside the jacket is lined with a Rapha sprocket print and features routing loops for an iPod cable. The jacket also has two internal breast pockets, both with laser-cut button closures, and an additional zipped valuables pocket.

Cycling Cap

Cycling Caps
In the same way as ‘you are what you eat’, we believe that what you become is formed by where you live. We live in Cambridge and what we design and make is inspired by the cities lifestyle — especially its cycling culture.

Cambridge is the city of bicycles and we are most certainly ‘lovers of life on two wheels’.

Our cycling caps are inspired by the cities tailoring tradition. Each cycling cap is meticulously designed and lovingly hand made in Cambridge. Craft and quality are key for us. We hand select materials and fabrics. Everything is drawn by hand, cut by hand and sewn by hand and on a traditional sewing machine.

Always wanted to ride to work and not have to change? Well you finally can with the all new Tranquillo Chinos. As with our other bottoms in the range, it’s designed to look just as good in the office boardroom as it does on the bitumen. Again, we’ve packed in all our best technical cycling features – reinforced crotch, custom chamois, and easy access pockets, with luxurious performance fabric.

The result is a chino that not only performs faultlessly on the bike, but one that feels amazing to wear. The dri-release Next cotton dries 4x faster than regular cotton and with the 8% spandex you have a fabric that provides you with unrestricted mobility and freedom. Add to that the EPIC by NEXTEC water-resistance encapsulation technology and you have a highly adaptable riding pant for all conditions.
